The history of the Order shows how the foresight of Father Michael J. McGivney, whose cause for sainthood is being investigated by the Vatican, brought about what has become the world’s foremost Catholic fraternal benefit society. The Order has helped families obtain economic security and stability through its life insurance, annuity and long-term care programs, and has contributed time and energy worldwide to service in communities.

Examples include:
- Paying for patients of low-income families to go on excursions

Plan’s work to promote child rights and lift millions of girls and boys out of poverty is based around eight core areas. Plan’s strategy emphasizes community engagement and ownership as the means to address the needs of children around the world.
Plan recognizes that no child lives in isolation, and for the child to truly benefit in any meaningful way, the basics of a stable and healthy community must come first. Plan is dedicated to working directly with children, their families and communities in devising, implementing and evaluating development projects that provide long lasting improvements. Because we are a child-centered organization (that means we involve children in all aspects of our programs), we design programs at the level of the child. This way, we can better see — and respond to — the complex web of causes and effects that impact a child’s life.
