QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT CONCEALED CARRY WEAPON TRAINING
- Question: How long are CCW Courses and what information is covered?
Answer: The course is 8 Hours, usually on weekend days. The course covers the basics of handguns, safety, ammunition, shooting fundamentals, gun storage and cleaning, holster choices, dealing with law enforcement, non-lethal options, judgmental shoot/don’t shoot situations, and the legal aspects of concealed carry in Arizona.
- Question: How old do you have to be to take a CCW course?
Answer: In order to get a CCW permit you must be at least 21 years old however you may take this course up to 6 months before your 21st birthday. Your application will not be honored until you turn 21. Youths, 15-20 may take the course for educational purposes only, the permit is not available!
- Question: What is the cost of the first time CCW permit course and the CCW permit renewal?
Answer: $150.00 per-person for the Pre-Scheduled 8 hour CCW course and there is No longer a CCW Renewal course required.
- Question: Where are the training courses located?
Answer: The current training locations are Phoenix Rod and Gun Club @ (South Mountain Park)
- Question: What type of gun should I bring to class?
Answer: Any reliable Semi-Automatic or Revolver (9mm, .38spl or larger caliber preferred).
- Question: What if I don't own a handgun?
Answer: With advanced notice, MARICOPA TACTICAL will RENT you with a handgun and all related equipment for class and provide you with 100 rounds of new factory FDMJ ammunition for use in the course for $40.
- Question: How will I know where to go?
Answer: When your course has been paid for and confirmed, we will provide you with a gear list and directions, including a map to your specific training location.
- Question: What is the fee for a CCW permit and how long is it valid for?
Answer: The State Permit Fee is $60.00 and is valid for 5 years. It can be submitted and payable to the DPS up to 6 months after the student has passed the CCW course.
- Question: What happens to the CCW permit after the 5 years have expired?
Answer: You may renew up to 60 days after the permit expires. After 60 days you must take the full CCW course again. You must also pay another $60.00 to the State of Arizona for the next 5 years of your permit.
- Question: Are their mandatory tests involved for the CCW course?
Answer: Yes! There is a 20-question test for the full CCW course, 70% Pass/Fail. For CCW you must qualify on the range on a 10 round course of fire. It is a slow fire test of 5 rounds at 5 yards and 5 rounds at 10 yards on a TQ-15 target with a 14"x16" scoring area. Target scoring is 70% Pass/Fail.
- Question: When can I renew my permit?
Answer: You may renew up to 6 months prior to the permit expiration, however you can apply and send in your application no sooner than 90 days before the permit expires.

Answer: Yes, we provide the AZ Gun Owners Legal Guide as part of the course cost.
